Be sure to read through ALL of the information below. Failure to read through the information provided could negatively affect student performance and grades. Emails with questions that were explicitly addressed in this post will be responded to with "Please refer to the Weekly Announcement." If you have ANY questions not addressed in the Weekly Announcement you may email me directly at [email protected].
1ST QUARTER GRADE: 1st Quarter grades are final. If you are not happy with your grade I suggest reviewing your grade and determining where you could improve. Did you submit all of your IETs, Assignments, and Tests? If not, that is the first place you should work to improve. Did you miss classes? Attendance is important to improving your understanding of the concepts. If you aren't present then how else are you going to gain understanding? Did you take advantage of ALL 33 optional opportunities you were provided to improve your grade? If not, that is another area you may improve. Did you ask for help when you didn't understand a concept? If not, that is another area you may improve. Do not contact me asking for free points toward your grade, there were excessive opportunities provided.
MODULE 5 TEST & CLOSING: All Module 5 grades will count towards the 2nd Quarter grade. The Module 5 Test will be on Friday, October 15, 2021 for A-Day students and Monday, October 18, 2021 for B-Day students. The test will become available at 7:15 AM, due by 2:00 PM and close by 11:59 PM. If the test is not completed by closing a zero will be applied. Be sure to submit your test BEFORE the closing time! The Module 5 Closing will also be on Friday, October 15, 2021 for A-Day students and Monday, October 18, 2021 for B-Day students. Any assignments not submitted by 2:00 PM on these respective days will be recorded as a zero. NO EXTENDED TIME WILL BE PROVIDED!
CHANGES FOR 2ND QUARTER AND FORWARD: To better focus my attention on serving students, Cornell Notes will no longer be collected after each module test for an additional grade opportunity. To continue to encourage students to complete the notes, these notes will still be permitted to be used while taking the module tests. Further, to qualify for the Quarter Recovery Tests students must correctly complete and submit all of the Cornell Notes for the quarter by the deadline specified by the teacher.
HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS (AND STUDENTS): Earlier this year I posted the following article, Helpful Information for Parents, help keep parents informed of what the course is about. The article is also helpful for students, especially with the number recently added to the course. If you are a new student to the course please take the time to read the article. This will help you catch up with insights that other students have already been given or figured out over the first semester.
ABSENCE/QUARANTINE: If you are absent from class or quarantined due to COVID-19 tracing and told to work from home, you need to check the Weekly Announcement for what work will be covered in class each day. The notes will be posted in Teams under the Files tab. The assignments will appear in the Assignments section on Teams. You have access to a digital text book (Open Stax) via the link provided, on the class website (IsonBiology.com), on the course syllabus (located in the Class Material folder in the Files tab). There are also tutorials available on the class website.
