Be sure to read through ALL of the information below. Failure to read through the information provided could negatively affect student performance and grades. Emails with questions that were explicitly addressed in this post will be responded to with "Please refer to the Weekly Announcement." If you have ANY questions not addressed in the Weekly Announcement you may email me directly at [email protected].
CLASS INTERUPTIONS: Do NOT come by the classroom during a class period you are not scheduled, slide notes or work under the classroom door, or have a third party (teacher, student, sibling, administrator, etc.) deliver notes or messages. If you have a question, read the Weekly Announcement and other notifications posted on Teams first! If you have a question that was not addressed, you may either email me at [email protected] or ask me during the work time of your scheduled class period. Remember, it is your responsibility to attend class, pay attention, and read the information I have provided to you.
2Q RECOVERY TEST: The 2nd Quarter Recovery Test will be available to students starting on Monday, December 13, 2021, at 7:15 AM and remain available until 11:59 PM on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. Any missed or unsatisfactory test (Module 5, 6, 7, and 8) may be made up or remediated by taking the respective part of the 2nd Quarter Recovery Test. This remediation opportunity is NOT REQUIRED and therefore extended time is not provided. The recovery test is PURELY OPTIONAL, so there will not be make-ups for it. The higher score is recorded in the gradebook. See "Cornell Notes and Qualifying for the 2Q Recovery Test" below for questions about qualifying.
CORNELL NOTES AND QUALIFYING FOR THE 2Q RECOVERY TEST: As a requirement to qualify for the 2nd Quarter Recovery Test students must have submitted their correctly completed Cornell Notes for Module 5-8 by the end of their class time on Thursday, December 9, 2021 (A-Day) or Friday, December 10, 2021. These deadlines were the result of two deadline extensions already provided to students. Students and parents were and are able to see whether the Cornell Notes were correctly submitted within the gradebook. There was ample time provided to students to submit their notes or have them reviewed for correct completion. The earliest that each module Cornell Notes may have been correctly completed and submitted is as follows (A-Day/B-Day): Module 5 (October 8/12), Module 6 (October 25/26), Module 7 (November 8/9), and Module 8 (November 29/30). Students were continuously reminded to complete and submit them. Students were continuously offered help in completing them. The Cornell Notes do not count toward the grade, and only serve to qualify the student for the remediation test. The 2nd Quarter Recovery Test is NOT REQUIRED, so there will be NO EXTENSION provided.
2Q RECOVERY OPTIONS REMAINING: Students have been provided multiple opportunities this quarter to recover grades via module crosswords and Kahoot! totaling to 12 recovery point opportunities (180 possible recovery points) provided this quarter. These points were designed to help recover points lost on the IETs and Assignments. Students also were able to qualify for a test waiver on an Assignment or IET by earning a raw score of 80 or greater on any of the (open notes) module tests (stated in class and on the course syllabus). These opportunities were not a surprise for students as they were provided in the same manner during the 1st Quarter. Additionally, students were provided the opportunity to take the 2Q Recovery Test, provided the student qualified (addressed in class and in multiple Weekly Announcements), to recovery any or all of the four module tests. Finally, during the Mid-Year review I have provided opportunities via Kahoot! to earn more recovery points on Modules 5-8 (8 opportunities totaling 120 possible recovery points), with the last opportunity available Monday, December 13, 2021, for A-Day and Tuesday, December 14, 2021, for B-Day. This all totals to 28 different opportunities to improve or replace scores over the 2nd Quarter. THERE ARE NO EXTENSIONS OR RECOVERY OPTIONS FOR RECOVERY OPPORTUNITIES!
HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS (AND STUDENTS): Earlier this year I posted the following article, Helpful Information for Parents, help keep parents informed of what the course is about. The article is also helpful for students, especially with the number recently added to the course. If you are a new student to the course please take the time to read the article. This will help you catch up with insights that other students have already been given or figured out over the first semester.
ABSENCE/QUARANTINE: If you are absent from class or quarantined due to COVID-19 tracing and told to work from home, you need to check the Weekly Announcement for what work will be covered in class each day. The notes will be posted in Teams under the Files tab. The assignments will appear in the Assignments section on Teams. You have access to a digital text book (Open Stax) via the link provided, on the class website (IsonBiology.com), on the course syllabus (located in the Class Material folder in the Files tab). There are also tutorials available on the class website.
