Be sure to read through ALL of the information below. Failure to read through the information provided could negatively affect student performance and grades. Emails with questions that were explicitly addressed in this post will be responded to with "Please refer to the Weekly Announcement." If you have ANY questions not addressed in the Weekly Announcement you may email me directly at [email protected].
SUBMISSION OF ASSIGNMENTS: I have repeated this many times this year and this is to further document it being stated. Work is not submitted in Teams. You must click the SUBMIT button in the Microsoft Form for the your responses to be turned in to me. Also, if there is a question as to whether you turned in the assignment you have two options, check your student email for the receipt if you clicked the receipt button as told to do OR you can reopen the assignment's form and if it's not closed (see the closing date and time below) and still available for you to complete then you didn't submit it.
BREAKING DOWN THE QUARTER 1 GRADES: Grades were finalized on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, for all classes. I will not be reopening assignments. There were 10 recovery point opportunities provided during Quarter 1. There were 23 A's, 31 B's, 18 C's, 8 D's, and 23 F's. Of the failing grades 18 students have had their names turned over to the Attendance Intervention Team (AIT) since they missed 8 days or more of the 19 classes this quarter. That would be an attendance grade of 57% (if grades were done by attendance), hence why the 18 F grades were likely F's. This means that excluding students with attendance issues there were as many B's (31) as there were students with C's (18), D's (8) and F's (5) combined (18 + 8 + 5 = 31). This also means - excluding students attendance issues - 63% earned an A or B, 85% earned C or above, and 94% passed. The remaining 5 F's can be contributed to students not completing assignments. This may seem like a high amount of success, but grades are based on knowledge demonstrated and not on compliance.
MODULE 5 TEST & CLOSING: The Module 5 Test will be on Monday, October 24, 2022. The test will become available at 7:15 AM, due by the end of class and close by 11:59 PM. If the test is not completed by closing a zero will be applied. Be sure to submit your test BEFORE the closing time! The Module 5 Closing will also be on Monday, October 24, 2022. Any assignments not submitted by 7:15 AM on the closing day will permanently be recorded as a zero. This will be the first module of the 2nd Quarter!
MODULE 6 TEST & CLOSING: The Module 6 Test will be on Monday, November 7, 2022. The test will become available at 7:15 AM, due by the end of class and close by 11:59 PM. If the test is not completed by closing a zero will be applied. Be sure to submit your test BEFORE the closing time! The Module 6 Closing will also be on Monday, November 7, 2022. Any assignments not submitted by 7:15 AM on the closing day will permanently be recorded as a zero.
2ND QUARTER CALENDAR AVAILABLE: The 2nd Quarter Calendar is available on the website, IsonBiology.com. This calendar is subject to change. The calendar outlines what we will cover until Winter Break begins in December.
HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS (AND STUDENTS): To help keep parents informed please take the time to read the article Helpful Information for Parents. The article will also be helpful for students. Over the past few years I have received countless feedback from parents and students about it's usefulness in understanding how the course is run. The information provided in the article answers many of the frequently asked questions I receive.
ABSENCE: If you are absent from class for any reason you need to check the Weekly Announcement for what work will be covered in class each day. The notes will be posted in Teams under the Files tab. The assignments will appear in the Assignments section on Teams. You have access to a digital text book (Open Stax) via the link provided, on the class website (IsonBiology.com), on the course syllabus (located in the Course Documents folder in the Files tab). There are also tutorials available on the class website. Remember, if you go over 5 days absent in a 30-day period or 10 days absent in a semester you may be in jeopardy of losing your driver's license per Florida Statute.
